ARMS AND THE MAN
A Play in Three Acts
By George Bernard Shaw

October 1 - 3 & October 8 - 10 at 7:30pm and October 3 & 11 @ 2pm

Directed by Peter Jack Tkatch

“A witty and romantic anti-romantic comedy.” – New York Times

The proud daughter of a military officer, Raina is startled when an exhausted enemy soldier sneaks into her room, fleeing a battle in which her fiancé Sergius has led his troops to glorious victory. When the soldier, Bluntschli, opens Raina’s eyes to differences between her idealized picture of war and the grim realities of the battle just fought, her whole world is turned upside down. Raina is shocked to meet a soldier who values comforting chocolates more than bullets. In interactions with her candy-eating soldier Raina begins to question not only her romanticized notions of war and heroism but also of love.

*Plays Pleasant (1898) comprises four Shaw comedies intended to amuse audiences but also to provoke them. The four Plays Pleasant include Arms and the Man, Candida, You Never Can Tell and The Man of Destiny.
